Taking time

I could kick myself for every day that goes by when I don't record all of the amazing things Kade does and says. I was reminded of this a few minutes ago when I got some picture prints in the mail from our vacation to the beach. It's been over two months since vacation and there is no way I could remember everything he's done since then, every moment he's made us laugh or shocked us into silence with some new word or phrase.
We keep telling him he's going to be a big brother soon, but I know he has no concept of what that means. It will be cool to see him interact with his baby brother. He does kiss my belly when I tell him to kiss his brother, which is cute.
One of his favorite words right now is "no", which is sometimes really frustrating because he says it about everything. Sometimes, we're not even sure he really know what it means. He told his papa (my dad) "no" on Sunday at church when he told Kade to sit down in his seat and papa looked at me as if to say, "I can't believe he just told me 'no'" Yeah, welcome to life with a 2 year old (again).

His pronunciations of words are the best part of hearing him talk. I try to take as much video as I can. Barney (the purple dinosaur) is "Bah-ee", Mickey Mouse is "Mee Mow", Junior Asparagus (a character from Veggie Tales) is "Ju Spare". We can decipher a lot of what he says, but sometimes, he just babbles in the most serious way and all we can do is nod and act understanding.

He's so musical. He loves the guitar, piano, and drums. He doesn't sing very much, but he has an amazing memory. If you sing a song and leave out words, he will fill them in, even if it's a song he hasn't heard in a long time or has only heard a couple of times.

One of the most amazing things to me is that he can recognize almost half of the alphabet by sight--not in order. He knows A, B, C, D, E, K, O, P, R, T, and Z. Sometimes, when he looks at writing on his shirt or a book, or piece of paper with words on it, he points out and tries to name all of the letters. Hopefully, he'll enjoy learning in the future. He's not much for numbers yet, though he will say, "one, two, three" in order and can repeat back to me most of the other numbers.

He loves trains right now and talks about them constantly. He hears the most distant sounding train whistles and yells, "shoo shoo shrain!" Of course, he also loves watching Thomas the train. I took him to the park earlier today and there's a piece of play equipment that looks like a train. He was so excited and kept saying, "Mommy, play shoo shoo shrain!"

I'm enjoying all of this time with just him and me, before the baby gets here. I can't wait to meet my other little boy, but Kade and I will always have something special.
